Dear Ms. Doumbia-Henry

Please find attached a copy of a briefing note prepared by the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) in the form requested by Ontario’s Ministry of Labour submitted to the Ministry for its input into Canada’s report on Convention 111 concerning Discrimination in Respect of Employment and Occupation as it pertains to the mandate of the OHRC.

The briefing note outlines recent developments including human rights tribunal and court decisions as well as activities of the OHRC related to discrimination in employment during the reporting period June 1, 2009 through May 31, 2011. The briefing note also provides information in response to the ILO Committee’s observations and direct requests.

The OHRC is copying the ILO on this information in accordance with article 3 (d) on contributing to States reports and 3 (e) on cooperation with United Nations bodies under the Paris Principles relating to the Status of National Institutions. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or my staff.
