  1. "Next Stop, Accessibility" Report on the public transit stop announcements in Ontario

    April 2008 - In October 2007, in response to recent developments and ongoing concerns in the area of transit accessibility, the Commission began an inquiry into whether transit providers across the province announce transit stops. Through this initiative, the Commission hoped to improve awareness in the transit sector of the importance of announcing all stops for the purposes of inclusion and accessibility, and to secure commitments toward quickly developing and implementing stop announcement plans.

    Following a lengthy hearing process, involving a complaint filed under the Human Rights Code by Michael McKinnon against the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, it was proposed that a joint working group of the three parties be struck to both support MCSCS’s change initiatives and to satisfy the OHRC’s need to ensure the process for change addresses its public interest concerns.

    Le 14 décembre 2007, la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne (la « Commission ») a publié un document intitulé Conclusions préliminaires : Commission d'enquête sur les agressions contre des pêcheurs canadiens d'origine asiatique. L’enquête visait à mieux comprendre la nature des agressions verbales et physiques dont ont fait l’objet des pêcheurs canadiens d'origine asiatique dans le sud et le centre de l’Ontario au cours de l’été et de l’automne 2007.
